19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid year, achieving just one match at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in especial - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden title since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface after that period of 2023.

Success also means he has won 21 championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters together, so to secure a championship is really nice," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my child her name, because the first title I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six finals, including in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had caused commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was concluded.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to approach the net and compete positively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the concluding five points to go ahead.

Both players swapped breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden tour championship, seized the initiative to create a third set.

The opponent rescued four early opportunities in a competitive final set before Medvedev broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner secured the win with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
